Frequently Asked Questions
Who will be teaching the courses?
All eight courses in the main programme will be taught by Sifu Sahu Tao Shen, Principal & Head Coach of Ptah Khi School & Academy. Sahu holds a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science and has more than 25 years of experience in internal arts, including Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung. He has been teaching since 2015 and combines his academic background with traditional training and practical experience to explore the relationship between the body, breath, movement and awareness.
Sahu is a CIMSPA Member (MCIMSPA), a member of the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts (BCCMA) and an Instructor Member of the Tai Chi Union of Great Britain (TCUGB).
Additional courses will also feature guest speakers or lecturers who contribute specialist knowledge and experience. Where a course includes a guest lecturer, their name, professional background and relevant experience will be provided in the course information.
Do I need any previous experience?
No. Our courses welcome beginners and experienced practitioners unless specific experience is stated as a requirement. Each course description explains who the course is suitable for, and teaching is adapted to the subject and level of the session.
What is the format of the live online courses?
Each course combines teaching, explanation, practical demonstrations and guided exercises, with opportunities to ask questions and discuss the subjects being explored. Depending on the course, you may also take part in individual practice or small-group activities using Zoom breakout rooms.
The emphasis is on understanding the principles behind each practice, experiencing them for yourself and developing your knowledge through observation, practical application and reflection. This approach brings together traditional teachings and relevant modern understanding, allowing you to investigate each subject through both theory and practical experience.
Each course has its own focus, duration and structure. Please refer to the individual course description for details of what will be covered.
What do I need to join?
You will need a device with Zoom, a stable internet connection and a quiet space where you can move comfortably, ideally around 2 m × 2 m. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Flat shoes or bare feet are suitable, depending on your preference and the surface you are practising on.
Will the session be recorded?
Yes. All courses will be recorded, and an edited version will be available to participants upon request. The recording will include the lecture sections and practical demonstrations, while group practice and breakout-room discussions will be edited out.
Do I need to keep my camera on?
Yes. Participants are required to keep their cameras on during the course. This allows Sifu Sahu to confirm that participants are present and engaged, observe their movements during practical exercises, and offer feedback or guidance where appropriate.
How many people can attend?
To maintain a positive learning experience, most courses are limited to 20 participants. This allows time for questions, discussion and individual guidance from Sifu Sahu. Courses that include breakout groups require a minimum of four participants to ensure the activities can be carried out effectively. Minimum numbers may vary depending on the course format.
When will I receive the Zoom joining details?
Your joining instructions and Zoom details will be sent by email between five days and two weeks before the course. This will include your Zoom login details, joining instructions and any other information you need to prepare for the session. Please ensure you check your email inbox, including your junk or spam folder, for these details before the course begins.
What if I am outside the UK?
All course times are listed in UK local time. If you are joining us from another country, you can use a time zone converter to check the course start and finish times in your local time zone. Please remember that the UK switches between GMT and BST during the year, so check the date of your course when converting the time.
How does early booking work?
Some courses offer a reduced early-booking price. To qualify, complete your booking before the early-booking deadline shown on the relevant course page. The standard price applies after that date.
Can I participate if I have a health condition or injury?
Our courses include movement and breathing practices that may need to be adapted to individual circumstances. They are educational and are not intended to diagnose, treat or replace professional medical advice. If you have a health concern, are pregnant, or are recovering from an injury or surgery, consider whether the activities are appropriate for you and seek advice from a suitably qualified healthcare professional where necessary. Please contact us before booking if you are unsure whether a course is suitable for you.

What if I can no longer attend?
If you cancel more than seven days before the course, you can receive a full refund. For cancellations made seven days or less before the course, refunds are not available under our standard policy. However, you may transfer your place to another person or another course, subject to availability.
To arrange a cancellation or transfer, please contact us through our Contact page and include your name and course title. This policy does not affect any statutory rights you may have under applicable consumer law.
Can I book more than one course?
Yes. You can book as many courses as you wish. Each course has its own subject and learning objectives, so you can choose the sessions most relevant to your interests and experience.
Which course should I start with?
If you are new to these practices, Tai Chi for Beginners or the Chi Kung Foundation Course may be a good starting point. If your main interest is relaxation and managing everyday stress, consider Stress, Sleep and Nervous System Reset or Calming the Mind. If you are interested in internal development, explore Nei Kung: Building Internal Strength, Nei Dan: Internal Alchemy or The 369 System.
Each course explores a different subject and can be attended independently, so you can choose the topics that interest you most. The eight courses run on a repeating cycle. Once the final course in the programme has taken place, the cycle begins again with the first course, giving you further opportunities to attend courses you may have missed or revisit subjects you would like to explore more deeply.
You can read each course description to find out more about its subject, approach and suitability for your interests.
Will there be more courses in the future?
Yes. New courses will be introduced and added to the live online programme in date order. Some will be standalone workshops exploring a particular subject, while others will form part of an existing series, allowing you to explore specific areas in greater depth. Check the course schedule regularly to discover what is coming up next.
