 Yellow Sash / Belt Curriculum

Foundation of Stability, Energy, and Internal Flow

The Yellow Sash marks not only the continuation of your Tai Chi and Chi Kung journey, but also the beginning of your Nei Kung path. At this stage, you are laying the essential groundwork for all future practice. Just as a tree must grow deep, strong roots before it can extend its branches, your training begins with stability, awareness, and energy cultivation. Each exercise at this level strengthens both body and mind, preparing you for the higher skills yet to come.

  1. Wudang Hand Form – Stability as the Foundation of Power

Before movement can become fluid, it must first be stable.

  • Key Practice: Wudang Short Hand Form (up to “Kicking Out in a Curve”)
  • Focus: Stance alignment, postural integrity, weight distribution.
  • Skill Developed: Rooting through the feet to enhance balance, energy flow, and internal strength.
  • Why it matters: Without stability, energy leaks. With stability, every movement carries force, grace, and intention.
  1. Chi Kung (Qi Gong) Exercises – Cultivating Internal Energy

Chi Kung is the engine of internal transformation. Instead of moving from the limbs alone, you learn to move from the breath and the Dantian (energy centre).

  • Warrior Exercise – Strengthens the core, stimulates digestion, and awakens breath-powered motion.
  • Cloud Hands – Refines spinal rotation, improves balance, and unifies Yi (intention), Chi (energy), and Li (force).
  1. Health Without Pills – The Science of Self-Regulation

Every practice is medicine when performed with awareness. At this level, you explore specific health-based sequences.

  • High Blood Pressure Exercise – Activates the vagus nerve, increases oxygen intake, and engages the parasympathetic nervous system.
  • Low Blood Pressure Exercise – Stimulates circulation and balances baroreceptors for homeostasis.

Key Skill: Learning how Tai Chi and Chi Kung regulate the nervous system, blood flow, and overall health through breath, posture, and relaxation.

  1. Ptah Khi Self-Healing (Re-Qi Shaafuy) – Energy Harmonisation & Protection

Here you are introduced to techniques of energetic clearing, harmonising, and protecting personal energy fields.

  • Focus: Becoming aware of subtle energy flow, learning how to recharge, release tension, and restore vitality.
  • Why it matters: Before helping others, you must learn to sustain and protect your own energy.
  1. Eight Power Sequence – Meditational Flow of the Eight Forces

Building on your study of the Eight Powers, you learn a full flowing sequence.

  • Skill Developed: Linking static awareness into continuous movement, enhancing body–mind–breath integration.
  • Introduction to Tai Chi’s Eight Internal Forces, exploring meditational movement and structural energy pathways.
  1. Tai Chi Partner Drills – Moving With, Not Against, Forces

Tai Chi teaches you to “become water”, responsive, adaptable, and powerful without resistance.

  • 5 Elements Partner Drill – Develops tactile sensitivity, forearm conditioning, and the articulation of internal energy.
  • 7 Stars Partner Drill – Trains rhythm, timing, partner awareness, and the ability to yield or redirect incoming force.

Key Skill: Cultivating responsiveness, awareness, and flow in dynamic interaction, lessons that apply equally in martial practice and daily life.

This foundation is not only the beginning of martial skill, it is the beginning of transforming the way you move, breathe, and interact with the world.
